Gárdonyi Géza (1863–1919) a magyar irodalom egyik legkedveltebb és legolvasottabb írója, akinek életműve a történelmi regénytől a lírai prózán át a naplóirodalomig terjed. Temetésére 1919. november 12-én került sor a vár mellett kialakított sírkertben, a későbbi Gárdonyi-sírnál.
