A Bible printed on parchment by Gutenberg and Fust in 1450-55, the first book printed with metal type, sold for £4,000. A Latin Bible by Fust and Schöffer of 1462, also a parchment copy, was bought for £1,500. A book by Caxton, England’s first printer, of 1478, sold for £750; another work by the same printer brought £300.
