Orison Swett Marden, the great American thinker and humanist, was born in 1850. He had to work very hard to come up in life. He was three years old when his mother died and only seven when his father passed away. Work hard and get ahead had been the American dream in those days and Abraham Lincoln was his role model. Orison was made of sterner stuff. There is nothing else so fascinating in history as the romance of achievement under difficulties – the stories of men and women with an average ability who have succeeded by dint of indomitable will and inflexible purpose. Orison’s life was an epic of struggle and triumph.
