Twenty-six years have passed since the Esterházy Guide was published. This was the first public account of the friendship and working relationship between Marianna D. Birnbaum and Péter Esterházy, which was followed by two more conversation books, Esterházy, Konrád, Spiró in Jerusalem and The Teaching of the Years, written for Péter Esterházy's sixty-fifth birthday.
For the expanded edition of the Esterházy Guide, Marianna D. Birnbaum collected, under the title The School of Prose, the letter excerpts that Esterházy sent her as a quasi-work diary during the writing of Hrabal's book, Countess Hahn-Hahn's glance, and Harmonia Calestis.
The volume, supplemented with quotes, photos, and manuscripts, offers a glimpse into the writer's workshop, the uncertainties during work, and the secrets of planning and editing.
