Unique has become cheaper

Capital Newspapers, April 1891 (Volume 28, Nos. 89-118)

Cousin's famous book collection was recently auctioned in Paris. A total of 136,192 francs were raised for the valuable books and rare manuscripts. However, the most expensive piece in the collection was sold for much less than Cousin bought it at the time. The unique work contains descriptions of 18th-century types and customs, with twenty miniatures by famous painters of the last century, and was originally made for the passionate book collector La Papeliniere. It was acquired from him by the Duke De la Valliere, from him by the Marquis De Paulay, then by Duke Szaniszlo Radziwil and Baron Pichon. Cousin acquired it for 60,000 francs at the auction of the latter's library, but now they have only received 20,000 francs for it. Its value has therefore declined by two-thirds.
