The treasures of Windsor Castle

Hungary, November 1908 (Volume 15, Nos. 262-286)

It is reported from London that, by order of King Edward, an exact inventory is being taken of the movables and other collections in all the halls and rooms of Windsor Palace. The palace itself is in fact a vast treasury, some of which, however, are not even now inventoried and not sufficiently appreciated. It may have happened that the Princess of Wales discovered in the past a collection of extremely valuable old ivory miniatures, of which no one in the whole castle had ever even suspected.
A similar incident occurred recently during the reorganization of the royal library, when several rare books came to light. Most of the cellars are filled with furniture and other furnishings that have been discarded from the rooms from time to time, and among which there are certainly several pieces of furniture of historical importance. At the vizslat, great attention is also paid to the underground corridors under the castle, which are believed to lead for a long distance and in the past, during some sieges , provided an escape for the monarch and his court.
